[PHOTOS] A Review of “La Traviata” on Sydney Harbour

Opera Performance on Sydney Harbour

My husband did ask the obvious question, “Why?” Yes, why would you suspend the biggest chandelier you have ever seen over a stage floating in the air, over the Sydney Harbour, in front of the Harbour Bridge? And then perform “La Traviata”? And even more so, how? I can imagine the original meeting with the engineers “You want us to do what? How? Are you crazy?” After a truly unforgettable evening, I am still not sure how on earth they managed. I do know what the end result is. It’s an experience that is as much a delight for your eyes as it is for your ears.

Waikiki Beach Hilton

Four tourists in coordinating Hawaiian Christmas ensembles asked us how we were able to balance as we scooted past during our Honolulu Segway Tour. My answer: you don’t really have to think about balancing, you just stand and the machine balances for you. This was my second time on a Segway and I found I really didn’t have to think at all. A quick refresher course and we were off and rolling.

[PHOTOS] Maui Sunset Dinner Cruise

January 5, 2012

Somebody handed me a Mai Tai as soon as we sat down on the Maui Sunset Dinner Cruise. I think I could get used to this! Later I even succeed in convincing my darling to dance to “Easy Like Sunday Morning”. Yes, it’s all very easy. Our hotel had a shuttle that dropped us off just ten minutes away from the harbor. We found the check-in spot and had a few spare minutes for postcard shopping in the nearby souvenir shops.

Blue Mountains: A Different Kind of Australian Wilderness

September 21, 2011

OK, close your eyes and picture the Australian wilderness…. If you are like me, you probably have an image of a sun baked red dirt path heading off into the horizon. Actually, there is a whole different kind of wilderness in Australia in the Blue Mountains, just a short bus ride from Sydney. (You can open your eyes now). In an easy Blue Mountains day trip from Sydney, you get a different perspective of the Australian wilderness and see some cute, cuddly (and not so cuddly) Australian animals all thrown in.

The Woman Behind the Winchester Mystery House

March 7, 2011

Follow the footsteps of Melinda as she tours the Winchester Mystery House in San Jose. The mystery of the house lies in its owner, a woman convinced that to keep the ghosts at bay she must construct her house with as many turns, twists and dead-ends as possible to confuse them. The final design leaves modern day visitors quite confused as well.

Exploring San Francisco by Segway

December 14, 2010

I believe the best way to see a city is through the soles of your feet. But after lifting those feet a few inches off the ground on the San Francisco Waterfront Segway Tour I have to say walking has some serious competition.

Welcome to Tillicum Village, Seattle

Halfway through our scrumptious salmon dinner on the Tillicum Village Tour, my Darling said to me “this review is writing itself isn’t it?” OK, well I wouldn’t go that far but yes, this tour was easy to like. We found the starting point easily.

A Three Hour Cruise

September 2, 2010

Maybe it’s the negative ions, or the sparkly lights. Or, perhaps the bubbly had something to do with it. Whatever it was, not long into our Sydney Harbour Dinner Cruise, this group of jaded Sydney-siders was joyfully running around taking pictures of the Opera House as if we had never seen it before. Just imagine how excited we would have been if we had never seen it before!

An Afternoon of Art and High Tea in Sydney: How Lovely

July 14, 2010

While enjoying High Tea at the Art Gallery of NSW one finds oneself saying things like – “one”. Like the Queen, I believe my birthday should be a public holiday. Unlike the Queen’s Birthday, technically mine isn’t a holiday. But I take the day off anyway – and encourage my friends and family to join me. This year we discovered a lovely way to celebrate and everyone declared we should do it every year. (I have no problems with that).

Did Tintin Have this Much Fun in Vietnam?

June 9, 2010

Apparently Tintin never actually went to Vietnam but I’m sure if he had, he would have enjoyed Viator‘s Mekong Delta Adventure Tour. Parts of this tour were a little well – goofy. But even the ‘too cool to be on vacation with her parents’ teenager got into it. There’s something about being loaded on the back of a motorcycle crossed with a people mover and trundling down a path, ducking palm fronds and waving to little kids that was just plain fun.
