Romantic Tours, Things to Do, Travel Advice & Inspiration

What would Valentine’s Day be without the clichéd dinner reservations at a dimly lit restaurant? Interesting, that’s what it would be. And since here at Viator, we like to encourage exploration, we have come up with this list of V-day date options that have just the right amount of romance mixed in with a little individuality and thrill. To really wow your date this Valentine’s day, try one of these off-the-cuff activities that will impress them so much, they will have no other choice but to thoroughly thank you afterwards.

Get Wild

Everglades airboat tour

Instead of getting your loved one a stuffed animal, show them the real thing with a private wildlife tour. This private Everglades airboat ride and wildlife adventure is a great adrenaline rush for thrill-seeking couples.

Go Behind the Scenes

A little culture goes a long way on Valentine’s Day but don’t just do the same thing everyone else does and fight the crowds at the most popular museum in town. Many tour operators offer behind-the-scenes tours of the most famous museums and monuments in the world, like Museum Hack at the Met in NYC or a behind-the-scenes tour of the Eiffel Tower.

Take in the View

Willis Tower view

There’s nothing like an incredible view to set the mood, but crowds of tourists can quickly kill that mood. Seek out of one your favorite viewpoints when they are empty to have the city to yourselves. Try Chicago’s Willis Tower for early access and Breakfast in the Sky.

Play Games

In relationships, games don’t work, unless you are at an arcade. Let your inner kids out and get a little friendly competition going at an old-school arcade like Ground Kontrol in Portland, OR.

Get Close on the Dance Floor

Tango lesson

Nothing is sexier than the tango, but only if you are doing it right. Instead of going out dancing in a big crowded noisy club, get intimate by taking a private tango lesson, and hopefully by the end of the night you won’t be stepping on each other’s toes.

Go Back in Time

While we aren’t entirely sure how the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre came to happen on a holiday meant to honor love, we’ve embraced it. If you both like history, learn about the roots of this holiday with a little history lesson. Chicago’s Crime and Mob Tour might change the way you view V-Day but after hearing these stories, you will be more careful about angering your significant other.

Get Fed

Ditch the overdone dinner reservations routine and make it a little more romantic by staying local. So local, in fact, you don’t have to leave your house. Cloud 9 Living offers some of the best personal chefs to come to your house and treat you like royalty for a night.

See the Stars

Adler Planetarium

Adler Planetarium

Dining under the starlit sky would be really romantic, but for those of you in a big city or in colder February climates, that is not an option. Pull a Ross and Rachel and spend the night under the stars anyway at one of the many planetariums that offer after-hours programs, like the Adler Planetarium in Chicago.

See a Sexy Show

Stoke the fires of passion with a sexy show, such a burlesque performance or titillating vaudeville review. Watch as the dancers show off their provocation moves; you may even want to recreate the show in a private performance later.

Get Cooking

Nothing is sweeter than cooking for your significant other on Valentine’s Day. That’s if you know how to cook, otherwise it can turn in to a kitchen nightmare. Spice things up with a romantic cooking lesson in a gorgeous setting like this one offered in the Roman Countryside, after which you will be spoon-feeding each other all night.
