Editor’s Note: Viator recently held a contest to “Win Your Dream Travel Job” where we selected 4 finalists to travel the world shooting video. For 60 days, these teams traveled and filmed in some of the world’s top destinations, documenting their experiences along the way. Go here to watch their unforgettable journey!
From Washington DC, Jules and Brock went to New York City–the Big Apple, the City That Never Sleeps, and some might say The Best City in the World. In six days, they saw many world-famous sights, celebrated two holidays, and learned about the history of this incomparable city.
The team had gotten an early start, and they were hungry. A New York Pizza Tour to Brooklyn and Coney Island should solve that problem, yeah? They got to skip the lines at the restaurants and nosh on some of the best pizza in the world. Not a bad way to start their first day in NYC!
Jules and Brock have already been on several air tours on their trip, and today they got to add New York City helicopter tour to their list! Soaring over the city, they saw many of the major sights of Manhattan from a view that not many people get to enjoy.
Then on a World Trade Center Walking Tour, the team was able to see the progress that has been made at Ground Zero. They also saw the new 9/11 Memorial, which opened last year.
Brock and Jules got to follow in the fancy footsteps of Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda on a Sex and the City Hotspots Tour. They drank Cosmos, shopped, and saw more than 40 New York City locations featured in the TV series and movies.
They also enjoyed their evening in style with a New York City Harbor Lights Night Cruise. The cruise is one of the best ways to see the city, and with the glistening harbor lights, it can also be very romantic! The day happened to be Canada Day, so Brock made sure to get a photo with his flag.
Just in case Brock and Jules haven’t seen the city from enough angles, they got to see it from one more at the Top of the Rock. Many people say that this is the best observatory for views of Manhattan because your photos will actually include the Empire State Building–whereas if you go to their observatory, it will be missing from the skyline. Either way, it’s pretty fabulous!
With the Skip the Line: Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island Walking Tour, Jules and Brock saw two more of New York’s famous landmarks. At Liberty Island, home of the world-famous Statue of Liberty, they learned about the history and construction of the monument. On Ellis Island they were educated on all aspects of the island’s history with such attractions as The American Family Immigration History Center and The American Immigrant Wall of Honor.
On their last day, they ventured off the standard tourist trail and headed north for a Harlem Wednesday-Morning Gospel Tour. There they heard stories from Harlem’s fascinating history and saw some its famous sights.
Then because it was Independence Day, Jules and Brock celebrated at a 4th of July Fireworks Viewing Party on New York City’s Hudson River Pier. Happy birthday, USA!
Next stop: Miami!
