Bali is simply bursting with character and as any of the millions of tourists who have visited and fallen in love with the Indonesian island will tell you, the Balinese are simply one-of-a-kind.

While the island is most famous for its mega-tourist destinations–Kuta Beach and hillside Ubud–wherever you end up staying, an absolute must is to experience a traditional Kecak dance in Bali.

Kecak Dance, Bali

The Kecak Dance begins at sundown

Conducted only at sundown, this famous dance tells the Balinese Hindu tale of the island’s gods and is performed by dancers and a 30-plus strong body of Kecak performers who provide trance-like a cappella accompaniment to the dance.

This Kecak Dance Tour offered private hotel pick-up and drop-off with a driver and an English-speaking guide. An added bonus of this tour is the option to arrange earlier pick-up and driver and guide are willing to take-you to any shopping stops on the way, including famous Balinese silver workshops and wood handicraft wholesalers.

The performers line up

The Kecak dance is performed in a small auditorium where the stage performance is centered around fire, invoking the trance-like state of the performers.

Part dance-part ceremony, the Kecak performance is completely mesmerizing and unforgettable.

The Kecak performers provide the entire audio accompaniment to the dance and their skill, and physical endurance throughout the dance is unimaginable.

The dancers wear intricate headdresses and costumes

Dancers in intricate and colorful traditional garb act out the sacred Balinese story around a centerpiece of fire as the Kecak performers provide the rhythm and mood for each story segment.

The whole performance lasts for a little over an hour and there is the opportunity for you to take photos with the performers at the end of the show and even order special souvenir merchandise of your moment with the artists.

The Kecak Dance in Bali is an outstanding display of Balinese culture and thoroughly entertaining for all ages.
