Lonely Planet’s Bluelist 2007: Northern Ireland
![]() |
| Giant’s Causeway, Northern Ireland |
According to travel publisher Lonely Planet, Northern Ireland is a “must see” destination for 2007. The guide says visitors will find a country “abuzz with life”, full of “warm, genuine people” — a far cry from the image of a grim, bomb-damaged place. The Troubles? They’re so 1990s.
OK, so where to go and what to do in Northern Ireland? The guide recommends a trip to the Giant’s Causeway and its volcanic rock formations; the Bushmills whiskey distillery in County Antrim; and the annual oyster festival in the village of Hillsborough, County Down.
We also recommend a dram of Irish culture by heading to a traditional Irish Pub for a “Belfast Car Bomb” cocktail - a mix of whiskey and cream liqueur in a pint of Guinness. (Hey, we didn’t make that name up…)
Having never been to Northern Ireland - or any part of Ireland for that matter - I’m adding this to my travel wishlist. In fact, I’m adding Northern Ireland at the top.
