Editor’s Note: Viator is proud to introduce some of our new local experts. This network of licensed tour guides covers most every destination you can imagine, so check ‘em out the next time you’re looking for a private tour guide – or simply looking to explore a destination from a local’s perspective.
Meet Maricar Donato, one of Viator’s local experts in Washington DC with a passion for her city and a license to provide private tours.
A tour guide that can speak 2 or 3 languages is a prize for tourists; Maricar can speak 6! Her interesting ability to communicate with tourists in up to six different languages comes from a multilingual upbringing in the country of Philippines with a Spanish family background. Later, Maricar went to live and study in Paris, France and in Washington DC, the latter of which she now calls home.
Washington DC is the perfect American destination to sport her multilingual tour guide abilities, and the fact that she loves the diverse nature of the location itself means she is one passionate private guide. She possesses a high level of professionalism in the work that she does, which obviously comes from the 33+ years she has spent working in the tourism, event planning and training sector of the industry. In addition, Maricar is a trainer for the World Federation of Tourist Guides Association meaning, simply, that you pay for top quality with any of her tours.
Some of the type of tours Maricar offers include themed tours, Washington city tours, and night tours. Themed tours can include such topics as “The Spanish Stroll” and “Obamaroama Power Trip”. City tours run on average 4 hours and include stops at the White House, Washington memorials, the Arlington National Cemetery, and the US Capitol. Or, take the tour by moonlight to see some of the sights lit up in the night sky. Special stops on the night tour include the Kennedy Center rooftop, the Pentagon Memorial, and the Air Force Memorial.
